YES, HE COULD (again)

People from the USA, the country where dreams come true, decided last night that Barack Obama should continue leading the most influential country of the world because for most of them he still represents the famous American dream.

Both candidates, the Democrat and the Republican, Obama and Romny, have starred one of the most exhausting battles for the Presidency ever and Ohio, Colorado, Florida and many other states seemed to be the key to open the door of the White House. Finally, and after hours of nervousness, the Republican Romny appeared in a press conference to congratulate his rival for his victory. Obama immediately collapsed the social nets and his first speech as a new reelected president opened all the news programmes all over the world.

Obama’s first term has been characterized by a period of lights and shades. The expectations put on him four years ago were great and so have been the disappointments of some people after these years. The world economical crisis, the international conflicts in which USA have been involved, the advances in social programmes and even a Nobel Prize have sent the American President directly to the opening places of international media. Like one of those American rock stars, Obama has been both loved and hated equally.

Obama has a new challenge in front of him, the challenge of governing a country which is losing part of its splendor and taking it to the place where its citizens are used to seeing it. Europe, the emerging South American and Asian states, and almost all countries in the world will not overlook his decisions. Good luck Mr. President.

#DiegoTorrenteLondonTrip

London, host city of the 2012 Olympic Games, Queen Elisabeth II’s residence, and one of the most visited capital cities in Europe, was conquered a couple of weeks ago by an army of 42 people coming from San Clemente.

Joking aside, 39 niiiñooooos and 3 wonderful teachers enjoyed a five days visit to the city. During those days we stayed in the most comfortable hotel of the area. Undoubtedly, it was a place to pamper ourselves and where we were able to relax and get ready for the exhausting upcoming third term. Unfortunately, some of us had some problems organizing our clothes.

During the days, our group of brave students visited some of the landmarks that have made London one of the most beautiful cities of the world. The bravest ones tried to ride lions in Trafalgar Square.

Others became so famous that they even gave press conferences in Stamford Bridge and appeared on TV!

Some girls put on some weight thanks to its delicious typical dishes (all of them served before 21.00) whereas some of the boys were about to become the new Rock and Roll stars and others flirted with Sandra, a very nice and charming friend .

Also, a few Harry Potter fans found the famous platform 9 ¾.

There is no doubt that London is a multicultural city, and our students became part of that melting pot. Since it is a huge city, and in spite of the fitness of our students, who were about to break the world record of walking fast, we used the Tube to move around the city and on the escalators we always stayed on the right side (…or on the left…not sure).

During the trip we were accompanied by the #hombrecillodelChelsea (gambas, sangria, chica guapa, Iniestiaizo) and by that….woman with the…sweet voice…who explained very clearly and in very correct English the secrets of Shakespeare’s theatre.

It will be difficult to forget Antonio’s extremely bad luck, the teacher’s red bulls, Laura’s control in Tesco supermarket, the song “La Cruz” sung by Itziar and Miguel along The Mall, Carmen’s papers, Chema’s combs, José Javier’s spicy pizza, the several times that Míriam, Ainhoa and Regina got lost, Paula and Alba’s faces inside the train (while the others were outside), Irene’s reaction and experience in Harrods, Víctor and Susana’s t-shirts, Silvia’s tiredness or Marina & Manuel squirrels.

Of course we will always remember the race to the boarding gate, the hundreds of pounds spent in GAP, the private relaxed trip of Edu, Javi, Andrea and Lucía whereas the others couldn’t find the way and screamed and cried through the underground windows, that man in black that wanted to interrupt our girls’ dream but who was defeated by #superEdu in his fashionable pyjamas and many other things that we prefer to keep for ourselves.

For sure it has been a great experience for all of us, a trip that has helped us to expand our knowledge of the language and of the culture and, most importantly, to let us know each other much better. The English Department and the teachers involved have to congratulate all our students for their great behavior, their energy and their cheerfulness during the entire trip. We hope you enjoyed at least half as much as we did, which is a lot.
